About Hearing Tests and Audiograms

What is an Audiogram?

An audiogram is a graph that shows the softest sounds you can hear at different frequencies (pitches). It's the fundamental tool used by audiologists to assess hearing ability and diagnose hearing loss.

Understanding Your Results

The vertical axis (y-axis) represents hearing level in decibels (dB HL), with the softest sounds at the top (-10 or 0 dB HL) and louder sounds toward the bottom. The horizontal axis (x-axis) represents frequency in Hertz (Hz), from low pitches on the left to high pitches on the right.
